Who we are
Dhruva Astro ("Dhruva", "we", "us") makes Dhruva, a free astrology app for families, and Dhruva Pro, an app for practising astrologers. This policy covers both apps on Android and the web, the website dhruvaastro.com, and the service behind them at app.dhruvaastro.com.
In short
Charts are calculated on your phone. You can use Dhruva without an account, and then what you enter stays on your phone. When you sign in, your family book is backed up encrypted. We show no ads, include no advertising or analytics SDKs, and never sell your data.
What we collect
When you use Dhruva signed out
The names, birth dates, times and places you enter, your settings and your proposals are kept only on your device. Charts, porutham, panchangam and muhurtham are computed on the device. We do not receive them.
When you sign in
- Account: your mobile number (we send a one-time code by SMS to verify it), or your Google account's name, email address and account ID if you sign in with Google.
- Your family book: the profiles you add (name, gender, birth date, time and place), proposals and notes, synced so you can restore them on another device. They are stored encrypted.
- Notifications: a push token for your device, so we can tell you when a consultation report or a message arrives.
When you use particular features
| Feature | What is sent to us |
|---|---|
| Ask Dhruva (AI astrologer) | Your question and the chart details it needs, to produce the answer. Voice questions are turned into text by your phone's speech service before they are sent. |
| Reading a horoscope photo | The photo you choose, to read the chart written on it. |
| Consultations | The chart and question you send to the astrologer you choose, the astrologer's report and messages, and the payment record. |
| Marriage profiles | The profile and photos you choose to publish, your contact requests and messages, and blocks and reports. |
| Dhruva Pro | Your practice details (name, address, optional GSTIN, letterhead), your client book and consultation notes, voice notes you record, and your plan and invoices. |
| Payments | Payments are made through Razorpay. We receive the payment's ID, amount and status, never your card, UPI or bank details. |
Technical information
Our servers record requests (time, address, the path requested and the response) to run the service and to keep it secure. We do not use these records to build a profile of you.
How we use it
- To provide the features you use: backup, Ask Dhruva, consultations, marriage profiles and Dhruva Pro.
- To verify your mobile number and keep your account secure.
- To process payments, issue tax invoices and pay astrologers their share.
- To send notifications you can turn off in the app or in your phone's settings.
- To prevent abuse, such as fake marriage profiles or harassment, and to meet our legal obligations.
We do not use your birth details or your questions to advertise to you, and we do not sell or rent any personal data.
Who else handles it
We share information only as needed to run the features you use:
| Who | Why | What |
|---|---|---|
| The astrologer you choose | To answer your consultation | The chart and question you send, until you withdraw it |
| Other signed-in users | Marriage profiles you publish | Your published profile and watermarked photos. Your phone number is shown only after you accept a contact request. |
| Anthropic | Ask Dhruva, report drafts and reading horoscope photos | The question, chart details or photo needed for that answer |
| Razorpay | Payments | Order amount and the details you give Razorpay at checkout |
| Google (Firebase) | Google sign-in and push notifications | Your Google sign-in and your device's push token |
| Our SMS provider (MSG91 or Twilio) | One-time sign-in codes | Your mobile number and the code |
| Our hosting provider | Running our servers and database | Stored data, encrypted where described below |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, for example to answer a valid order from a court or government authority in India.
Phone permissions
- Microphone: only when you tap the microphone to ask a question by voice, or record a voice note in Dhruva Pro.
- Notifications: for the morning panchangam reminder and messages about consultations.
- Start at boot: so the morning reminder is restored after your phone restarts.
- Photos and files: only the photo or file you pick, for example a horoscope photo or a CSV of clients.
Dhruva does not ask for your location, contacts or call history. You type the place of birth or your town yourself.
Security
- All traffic between the apps and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Synced family books, client books, consultation charts and voice notes are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, with a separate key for each user, office and consultation.
- Sign-in sessions and one-time codes are stored only as hashes. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
- Reports and invoices are generated by our servers without access to the internet.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your information while you have an account. You can delete it at any time:
- In Dhruva: Settings → Delete my account and data.
- In Dhruva Pro: Settings → Delete account.
- Without the app: see Delete your account.
Deleting your account removes your account and everything linked to it from our database: your profiles, proposals, consultations, marriage profiles and photos, Dhruva Pro clients, notes and voice notes. Copies in our backups are overwritten within 14 days. A consultation chart you send to an astrologer is deleted as soon as you withdraw it.
Information kept only on your phone is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and other laws that apply to you, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- correct or complete it;
- erase it, and withdraw consent you have given;
- nominate someone to act for you if you are unable to.
Most of this you can do in the app. For anything else, or to raise a grievance, write to [email protected]. We reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
Accounts are for adults. A parent may add their children's charts to the family book. Marriage profiles are only for adults of legal marriageable age, published by the person themselves or with their consent.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
